The Central Texas Poison Center (CTPC) has been in open since 1994. The CTPC functions under the Department of Emergency Medicine at Baylor Scott & White Memorial Hospital and Clinic. The CTPC has predominately served Healthcare services Region 7, which contains 30 counties surrounding Bell County. As part of the Scott & White system, rapid access to toxicologic information twenty-four hours a day is provided. Pharmacist, Nurses, and Doctors, in consultation with an emergency Department physician answers all calls.
Today the CTPC offers comprehensive poison information services to the 3 million residents of Central Texas. Human exposures volume has steadily increased from 500 a month in September 1994 to 2,750 now. Total Contacts, including information and follow-ups calls, have a blossomed to over 6,500 a month over the same time frame.
